Poetry
The lamp is half lit,
keeping company with a page not yet finished.
Outside, the wind carries the sound of crickets
and footsteps coming home from the prayer hall.
I memorise one verse,
forget another,
then begin again from the start
like someone learning to walk.
Perhaps that is how knowledge is:
it does not arrive all at once,
but seeps in
through patient nights.
